1950s Gorodnitsa Porcelain Figurine – Uzbek Boy Carrying Watermelons – 23cm High

 

This delightful hand-painted porcelain figurine was crafted in the 1950s by the Gorodnitsa Porcelain Factory in the former USSR. It depicts a young Uzbek boy in traditional dress, holding a watermelon against his hip, surrounded by stylised foliage. His blue sleeveless top and embroidered skullcap (doppa) reflect regional identity with charming detail.

 

Standing approximately 23cm tall, the figure is full of character and mid-century optimism, celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the Soviet republics. The soft, pastel glaze and gentle modelling are characteristic of Gorodnitsa’s style during this era.
