This striking 1960s Carstens Tönnieshof vase, produced in their Austrian factory, is a fantastic example of mid-century West German pottery. Featuring a bold fat lava relief effect over a black-on-white squiggly line pattern with a matte finish, it is beautifully contrasted by a rich, deep blue glossy glaze on the main body.

 

Stamped with form and size numbers 1315-25 on the base, this vase stands 25cm tall. Apart from a small chip at the base, which is only visible when turned over, it is in really good condition, maintaining its vibrant colours and striking textures.
