VEB Haldensleben lava vase
Really attractive East German lava vase dating from the 1960's, marked 3045A on the base. In tones of brown, yellow and black with a sun design.
The vase stands approximately 27cm high. The diameter of the base is just over 10cm. There is a small chip to the base as shown, otherwise the condition is great.
This item was produced in the East German state-owned factory VEB Haldensleben. (VEB stands for Volkseigner Betrieb which translates as People’s Factory). The factory was organised in 1945 when the Carstens Uffrecht plant was nationalised. The Carstens brothers left and went to West German, where they started up the pottery company Carstens Tonnieshof. In 1990, when the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was reunited, the factory was returned to the Carstens family, and the firm was renamed Carstens Keramik Rheinsburg.
