Antique Bamboo Occasional Table | Scorched Tortoiseshell Finish, Woven Rattan Top, Victorian/Edwardian

A charming antique occasional table in scorched “tortoiseshell” bamboo, with a hexagonal woven rattan top and a folding X-frame base — typical of the bamboo and wicker furniture popularised in Britain during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, often associated with campaign and conservatory styling.

The mottled, tiger-striped finish to the bamboo is achieved by scorching, a hallmark of the period, and the rattan top has aged to a lovely warm honey tone.

Condition:

Good antique condition, sold with honest wear consistent with age. There is some splitting to the ends of a couple of legs and minor losses to the bamboo trim at the top edge (see photos for full detail). Structurally sound and stable.
