This gorgeous studio pottery pitcher with a loop handle was made by Cinque Ports Pottery, in Rye in East Sussex in the 1960's. The geometric shapes of the decoration epitomise that mid century era, while at the same time harking back to a much earlier classical period of ancient Greece. The outside of the vase has a green and white background decorated with a black, slightly textured glaze, reminiscent of the experiment glazes being employed by potteries over in West and East Germany, and France during this period.

The vase stands approximately 24 cm high, and it is in immaculate condition.

The base is marked with the number 21, and with the company logo of Cinque Ports Pottery Limited, The Monastery, Rye. Cinque Ports Pottery was founded in 1956 by friends David Sharp and George Gray. In 1964 they amicably parted company, and George retained the company name, and settled into new premises at The Monastery. The continued to run the business into the 1980's, and the company eventually closed its doors in 2007.
