Product Description

A characterful Edwardian adjustable artist’s or draughtsman’s chair made by Glenister of High Wycombe, dating from around 1890–1900.

Constructed in solid oak, the chair features a shaped saddle seat with a ring of ventilation holes, a design commonly found on studio and workshop seating of the period. The tripod base supports a circular footrest and central spindle, giving the chair excellent stability.

The backrest is upholstered in black leather and mounted on an adjustable support, allowing it to be repositioned for comfort. This practical design made chairs like this popular in artists’ studios, draughting rooms and workshops during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The chair retains its original Glenister maker’s mark, confirming its manufacture in High Wycombe, one of England’s most important historic furniture-making centres.

A well-made and highly decorative piece that would work beautifully in a studio, study, or interior with an industrial or traditional aesthetic.

Condition:

Very good antique condition with attractive age-related wear and patina consistent with use.
