Product Description:

A superb example of mid-century Japanese tin toy craftsmanship — a Radar Scope Truck by Modern Toys (Masudaya), one of the most sought-after tinplate manufacturers of the 1950s–60s. Finished in olive-green lithographed tin, the truck features a detailed cab with chrome-effect grille and glass-effect windows, and a rear-mounted "radar" unit with rotating dish antenna and backlit radar screen marked with compass points (N/S/E/W) and control dials. Two red plastic control knobs, rolling rubber wheels, and the original maker's mark — "Made in Japan / TRADE MARK / Patent No. 2810" — stamped to the rear panel. Registration plate reads "A1959."

 

A striking space-age/military-themed battery toy typical of the export toys Japan produced in this golden era of tinplate manufacturing, and a great display piece or restoration project for a collector.
