Napoleon I Coronation Bronze Medallion | Andrieu & Albert-Herbemont | In Leatherette Box

A bronze medallion commemorating the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor Napoleon I in 1804. The obverse depicts Napoleon in profile facing right, wearing a laurel wreath in the Roman imperial style, signed Andrieu.F after the celebrated medallist Bertrand Andrieu. The reverse shows a stylised Arc de Triomphe against a starburst background, signed Albert-Herbemont.

 

The edge is stamped BRONZE alongside a small cornucopia privy mark — the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) mark used to identify later restrikes produced from the original historic dies. This example is therefore a later striking of the 1804 design, most likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, rather than an 1804 original.

 

The medallion is contained in its original fitted leatherette box and is in excellent used condition, with no dents or repairs.
