Vintage Oak Book Stand / Lectern – Reading Round Table No.

A vintage oak book stand or reading lectern, decorated with a carved and painted roundel for Reading Round Table No. 6, along with the carved wording “Round Table.” The roundel depicts the alternating black and white segments and central Tudor rose associated with Round Table imagery, along with a depiction of King Arthur.

Round Table is a UK-based social and charitable organisation for men, with local branches (“Tables”) numbered by area; this piece appears to have been made for or presented to the Reading No. 6 branch. The stand has a sloped top for holding a book or document open, raised on four short feet, with a shaped apron beneath the main panel.

The piece shows wear consistent with age, including surface scratches and marks to the wood, as pictured.
